How does my dog learn where the boundary is?

Your dog learns the boundaries through voice commands and visual flags that are set inside the fence. The dog goes through a simple training session for each day for 3-5 days (if the system is installed by DogFence we will carry out our 4 stage training programme on the day of installation and leave the customer with a very simple reinforcing programme for approx 2 days after the day of installation – usually 5 mins per day). With training, the dog remembers the placement of the flags and is taught to stay within the border. During the training period, flags are slowly taken away. If the dog goes to within 2 – 10ft of the boundary wire(variable according to property size etc), he will hear a warning sound that means he is getting close to the correction field. If the dog reaches the correction zone, he will receive a mild static correction.

How does my dog learn to use it?

Typically, we will conduct the initial training with you and your dog. DogWatch has developed an in-depth dog fence training program that takes about 15-20 minutes per day for around 3 days. If you carry out the training yourself then this may take a little longer. Avoidance training is used to teach your dog to stay on your property.

Will the stimulation from the collar hurt my dog?

No. This type of stimulation has been used in dog training for over 40 years. A dog’s skin resistance is about 20 to 25 times greater than that of humans. The static shock Correction voltage is about one-fourth of that of a static electricity shock that you get around the house or in your car.  Furthermore, the amount of correction can be adjusted so that a dog receives the appropriate level of stimulation to its size or personality. DogWatch hidden fence systems have been tested by a major veterinary college, and are used and recommended by veterinarians, dog behaviourists and pet owners worldwide.

Will the system work for more than one dog or cat?

Can my dog get out?

If the initial training was done properly, this should not happen. If the dog does get out, check to make sure the collar is on securely. You may also increase the range of the signal to keep the dog further from the boundary or increase the correction level. We are also available to support you. There are many ways to adjust the DogWatch System. DogWatch uses FastReact technology which makes our receiver response times the quickest worldwide.

What if I move House?

If you move, you can bring your system with you. After boundary wire installation and a few minutes of refresher flag training, your dog will quickly know its new boundaries.

What is meant by receiver response time?

With the new FastReact transmitted code, the receivers will respond in less than 0.125 seconds.

How does response time help in pet containment?

A dog running at 20 mph covers 14 feet in 0.5 seconds and 3.6 feet in 0.125 seconds. At 10 mph, a dog would cover half those distances. Even at 10 mph, a dog could get 7 feet into the correction zone before the receiver would activate. The dog would cover only 1.75 feet with the FastReact FM system. DogWatch is proud to have the fastest reacting collars in the marketplace today.
